The above paragraph I found but then I also found this myth snippet as well..."Candy canes stiped in red represent the blood of Christ, the white stripes represent his purity," maybe to some people this statement is true, but they didn’t start out that way. Candy canes were originally all white in color. The color red, which is closely associated with the Christmas season for many religious reasons, was added during the mid-19th century when candy canes first started being used as decorations on Christmas trees. But the red-and-white variety of candy canes was not specifically first manufactured as religious symbolism.

This tradition at the holiday symbolically expressed "thanks for our daily bread" as well as providing a Christmas treat for the children. The candy cane thus represented the sheperd's hook. Candy canes on the Christmas tree symbolize the shepherds in the fields on the first Chirstmas night. Shephers who heard the angel chorus and came to worship at the crib of the newborn King.
